15. Add Support Information And Logo To Windows 7
Support information and a company logo individualizes a PC from
the rest of the crowd ensuring that should your customer need your
advice your opening hours and support numbers are always just a
click away.
Adding that information, unfortunately, isn't as easy as it
used to be, especially as now the whole process is undertaken
through the Windows registry. However, don't despair the
instructions below should guide you through the rather delicate
process.
- First and foremost you need to create your
company logo.
This you can do in most photo editing or design software, such
as Photoshop, Paint, Paintshop Pro, etc. The important thing
to remember is that the logo size should not exceed 120 x 120
pixels.
- Once your logo has been created save it as
OEMLOGO.bmp and
then you are ready to go to work on the Windows registry. At
this point it is always wise to back up the registry prior to
making any changes. See:

- Open the registry by Clicking the Start
button then, in the Start menu
search box type:
regedit and press OK.
- The regedit application will appear
at the top of the Start Menu Search list.
Click on this application to open the registry editor.
- When the registry opens navigate to the following registry
key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion
- Click on CurrentVersion to expand the directory list and
look for an entry marked OEMInformation. If this key does not
exist then you will need to create it as follows: Right Click
the CurrentVersion key and, from the drop down menu, Click
New
followed by Key. In the Key dialogue box type:
OEMInformation
and then Press Enter.
- If the OEMInformation key already exists,
Right Click on
it and, from the drop down menu, Select
New followed by String
Value.
- In the String Value box type: Logo and then Press
Enter.
- Next Right Click on the Logo key you just created and
select Modify.
- In the Modify box type the path to your logo file, for
example: c:\user\documents\OEMLOGO.bmp and then Click
OK.
- Next Right Click on the OEMInformation key again and
Select New followed by String Value.
- In the String Value box type: Manufacturer and Press
Enter.
- Now Right Click the Manufacturer key and Select
Modify.
- In the Modify box type the Manufacturer name you wish to
use or your own name, and then Click the OK.
- Again Right Click on the OEMInformation key again and
Select New followed by String Value.
- In the String Value box type: SupportHours and Press
Enter.
- Now Right Click the SupportHours
key you just created and
Select Modify.
- In the Modify box type Your support hours, i.e.,
Mon - Fri
9am - 5pm and then Click the OK button.
- Right Click again on the OEMInformation key and Select
New
followed by String Value.
- In the String Value box type: SupportPhone and Press
Enter.
- Now Right Click the SupportPhone
key and Select Modify.
- In the Modify box type Your support phone number, and then
Click the OK button.
- Once again Right Click on the OEMInformation key again and
Select New followed by String Value.
- In the String Value box type: SupportURL and Press
Enter.
- Now Right Click the SupportURL key and Select
Modify.
- In the Modify box type Your support website URL, and then
Click the OK button.
- Finally Close the Windows registry.
- Now Click the Start button and Right
Click My Computer.
- From the drop down menu, Click Properties.
- In the Properties window under the
System Section you will
see your Logo and other information displayed.
